To promote effective and responsive philanthropy in Black communities.
History: Forty-two years ago a group of foundation executives organized themselves in protest at the annual Council on Foundations membership meeting to demand an agenda that reflected the needs and interests of Black communities in the US. This small group, led by James A. Joseph, secured a charter from the Council on Foundations that eventually would establish the first of many affinity groups.
